Surprisingly, no medical research has been done Daith Piercings for migraines. There are a few low-grade surveys done by non-medical people, and Dr Chris Blatchley, of the London Migraine Clinic has found that they show there seems to be a real effect and that proper medical research is warranted. Chris is righting this, and has launched the first medical-grade survey 3 months ago. The results were even more promising, and now he has launched Version 2 of the survey.
If you have already had a Daith Piercing for your migraines he would love you to take part in the survey by visiting the London Migraine Clinic website
We are presently analysing the results of the survey but it shows that there is a real effect on migraines that cannot be explained by placebo. Within the responses so far received the results show some startlingly good response rates. If we look at the sub-group who have had migraines for over 10 years and a Daith Piercing for over a year then 50% report their migraines are greatly improved and 22% no longer have them. 14% have not had any obvious change and we are researching whether this is because they belong to a special group where their migraines are not responsive to a Daith Piercing, and ways of improving on this
- If we exclude the 14% non-responders then:-
- the 28% who report migraines on most days or more often before piercing drops to 2%
- the 4% who report migraines on 1 day a month or less rises to 74%
There will be much more to report when we have completed Version 2 of the survey, so if you know friends who have had a Daith Piercing please tell them about our survey
